The ReyesSoft OpenEDA Toolkit 1.1 includes the following software packages:

SystemC 2.2

"SystemC is a single, unified design and verification language that expresses architectural and other system-level attributes in the form of open-source C++ classes. It enables design and verification at the system level, independent of any detailed hardware and software implementation, as well as enabling co-verification with RTL design. This higher level of abstraction enables considerably faster, more productive architectural trade-off analysis, design, and redesign than is possible at the more detailed RT level. Furthermore, verification of system architecture and other system-level attributes is orders of magnitude faster than that at the pin-accurate, timing-accurate RT level."

Trusster's Truss and Teal

"Truss is a verification framework that coordinates how the top level dance of s simulation is executed. It does this by defining a set of building blocks and dance steps as concrete classes your test environment should inherit (build) from. In this way a common structure for tests, generators, checkers and all other verification components can be defined. This leads to more productive work, easier debug and increases the possibility of reuse. A lot of effort went in to making truss as easy to understand and use as possible.

Teal was originally developed as a simple PLI connection library between C++ and all major simulators but has later expanded to solve several important utility functions for verification."

Alliance CAD

Developed at the Pierre et Marie Currie University, Alliance CAD includes a VHDL compiler, simulator, logic synthesis tools, and automatic place and route tools. Additionally, a complete set of CMOS libraries is provided. Used for such projects as the 875,000 transistor StaCS super scalar microprocessor and the 400,000 transistor IEEE Gigabit HSL Router, the Alliance CAD package is the most mature EDA Open Source software available today.

Icarus Verilog

Developed by Steve Williams, Icarus Verilog is a command line Verilog compiler for logic simulation and synthesis.

The gEDA Suite

The gEDA project is working on producing a full GPL'd suite of Electronic Design Automation tools. These tools are used for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production. Currently, the gEDA project offers a mature suite of free software applications for electronics design, including schematic capture, attribute management, bill of materials (BOM) generation, netlisting into over 20 netlist formats, analog and digital simulation, and printed circuit board (PCB) layout.

FreeHDL

FreeHDL, developed as a research project at the University of Dortmund, is a command line VHDL-93 compliant compiler capable of compiling and simulating complex VHDL designs as such as the LEON-2 Processor. It uses GTKwave as its waveform output viewer.

ReyesSoft has currently the only release available of FreeHDL ported to OS X, Solaris, and HP-UX.

Electric

Electric is a sophisticated electrical CAD system that can handle many forms of circuit design, including: a custom IC layout (ASICs), a schematic drawing utility package, and a hardware description language specifications.

GTKwave

GTKWave is a VCD/EVCD/LXT/Synopsis '.out' format electronic waveform viewer.

PCB

PCB is an interactive printed circuit board editor for the X11 window system.

Gerbv

Gerber Viewer (gerbv) is a viewer for Gerber files which are generated from PCB CAD system and sent to PCB manufacturers as basis for the manufacturing process.

Gnucap

Gnucap is the Gnu Circuit Analysis Package.

The primary component is a general purpose circuit simulator. It performs nonlinear dc and transient analyses, fourier analysis, and ac analysis. Spice compatible models for the MOSFET (level 1-8), BJT, and diode are included in this release.

Gnucap is not based on Spice, but some of the models have been derived from the Berkeley models.

Unlike Spice, the engine is designed to do true mixed-mode simulation. Most of the code is in place for future support of event driven analog simulation, and true multi-rate simulation.

NgSpice

Ngspice is a mixed-level/mixed-signal circuit simulator based on three open source software packages: Spice3f5, Cider1b1 and Xspice.

Xcircuit

"XCircuit is a UNIX/X11program for drawing publishable-quality electrical circuit schematic diagrams and related figures, and produce circuit netlists through schematic capture. XCircuit regards circuits as inherently hierarchical, and writes both hierarchical PostScript output and hierarchical SPICE netlists. Circuit components are saved in and retrieved from libraries which are fully editable. XCircuit does not separate artistic expression from circuit drawing; it maintains flexiblity in style without compromising the power of schematic capture."

Magic

"Magic is a venerable VLSI layout tool, written in the 1980's at Berkeley by John Ousterhout, now famous primarily for writing the scripting interpreter language Tcl. Due largely in part to its liberal Berkeley open-source license, magic has remained popular with universities and small companies. The open-source license has allowed VLSI engineers with a bent toward programming to implement clever ideas and help magic stay abreast of fabrication technology. However, it is the well thought-out core algorithms which lend to magic the greatest part of its popularity. Magic is widely cited as being the easiest tool to use for circuit layout, even for people who ultimately rely on commercial tools for their product design flow."

Toped

Toped is an open source cross-platform IC layout editor, based on openGL and wxWidgets. The project defines its own script - TELL, capable not only to configure the editor properties, but also to code and facilitate the layout generation.
